Linkin Park's Chester Bennington talks Projekt Revolution

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Tool. Foo Fighters. Red Hot Chili Peppers. Rage Against the Machine.

Chester Bennington would love to tour with whatever or all of them someday.

But "a lot of it has to do with the bands," he mentioned by phone last week, just now before the Albuquerque plosive speech sound on the Projekt Revolution 2008 spell, once once more headlined by Benningtons circle, Linkin Park. "When you put together bands care (us) and Red Hot Chili Peppers, somebody has to headline and mortal is gonna be the supporting act, and a lot of times bands dont consider eye to eye on those things."

Granted, he adds, "I doubt Linkin Park would have a hard time opening for Red Hot Chili Peppers. But there are times when, for whatever reason, a band simply doesnt want to spell with some other band like us."

So for now, the group - one of the well-nigh successful outfits in action mechanism, and arguably the most salable hard-rock band of its generation - continues to further its third proper album, "Minutes to Midnight," by carrying on with Projekt Rev, as Bennington refers to it.

For the outings fifth incarnation, the banding has enlisted former Soundgarden and Audioslave vocalist Chris Cornell, rapper Busta Rhymes, New York synth-rock group the Bravery, Ashes Divide (featuring A Perfect Circles Billy Howerdel) and several more acts.

Bennington, who side by side plans to record a solo record album, had deal to read about all of the above in our chat - and hinted that perhaps one day Projekt Rev power become a stand-alone weekend festival a la Coachella.

Orange County Register: I strike its been a good tour for you so far. But are you able to gauge how the former bands are going over with your fans?

Chester Bennington: I think theyve in reality been received well. People are sightedness a match of these bands for the first time, so theyre not gonna be spazzing out when theyre watching. But theyre gainful attention and listening. Usually its a good polarity if theyre not throwing things at you.

OCR: Whats better roughly going taboo on Projekt Revolution as opposed to your own tour, or is it better the other way around?

CB: I like acting arenas a lot more than playing outside. I just feel like whether its freeze outside or whether its hot, youre in a place where you bathroom control the elements. Its dark. Everyone gets a light show. But the advantage to playing outside is that you bum have more bands. Its kinda the lesser of two evils. Theres a reason wherefore we merely do it once a year (laughs), not all year long.

Amphitheaters are a tricky thing to recreate. Only the last deuce bands that play start out to really take advantage of output, so cipher gets a light show until the headliner. Second, if its 100 degrees outside, and 90 per centum humidity, its a tough day - which bum deter people from lacking to come, especially in a bleaker economy. Youve already got that to fight back.

OCR: Has it dawned on you that youre really one of few bands these days that privy carry a tour like this?

CB: Yeah, you know, we do understand that. We could have easily gone kayoed and done an scene of action tour and played with one other band. But when we were growing up, we had Lollapalooza, we had Ozzfest - and those just arent happening anymore, with the exception of this class, where everyone is doing some summer outdoor festival tour.

For us, this is the one place where you john go and its diversified enough and has a really cool feel. Thats really been our vibe the whole time - we want to bring lots of different styles of music together, and give multitude a rattling good show.

OCR: What do you still want to do with it? And what about in the studio?

Born in 1971, Rusell Allen ground himself, like so many musicians, thrust into the thick of a musical family. His family's interests, however, were in the charge of country music, rather than Allen's chosen style of hard rock/heavy metal. After playacting with legion nameless bands, Allen joined Symphony X in 1995. He was the successor for original singer Rod Tyler and has been with the band ever since.

Hollywood prepares for Daytime Emmys

LOS ANGELES - The Daytime Emmys are aspiring to get a party started.

ABC is betting that new categories, new interactive elements and a new Golden Globes-style seating arrangement will shake up Friday's live Daytime Emmys show at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre (airing 8-10 p.m. EDT). Honoring everything from soaps to talk shows to game shows, the ceremony will be co-hosted by Sherri Shepherd from "The View" and Cameron Mathison from "All My Children."

"This going to be a really fun show," said Brian Frons, president of daytime TV for the Disney-ABC Television Group. "I think Sherri is the funniest person who's ever hosted the Daytime Emmys. She's spontaneous and works well in front of a live audience. And I don't think people realize how much chemistry she and Cameron have either. It's going to be a warm, upbeat Emmys."

Instead of sitting in the Kodak's stuffy theater seats, nominees will be gathered around their own banquet tables and allowed to sip booze from an open bar. Digital video cameras will be placed at the tables and attendees will be asked to document their personal experiences during the show. The footage will be uploaded to SoapNet.com throughout the live ceremony.

"Viewers will be able to get inside the show in a way that hasn't happened before," said Frons.

After plummeting to an all-time low of 6.1 million viewers in 2006, last year's Emmy Awards were watched by 8.3 million people, the ceremony's best ratings since 2004, according to Nielsen Media Research. That scaled-down, two-hour Daytime Emmys aired on CBS after a rebroadcast of Bob Barker's final "Price Is Right" episode and featured the game show host receiving his 19th Daytime Emmy.

This year, Ellen DeGeneres is competing for yet another talk show host trophy - she's won three straight times - against the ladies from "The View" - they've lost 10 straight times - as well as Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa from "Live with Regis and Kelly."

What about Oprah Winfrey? After several sweeps, she's been taking herself and her show out of Daytime Emmy contention since 1999.

"I've got my acceptance speech altogether," Shepherd, who's nominated with "View" co-hosts Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar, told The Associated Press at the Kodak Theatre on Thursday. "I'm just going to say 'This is for you, Joy!' And then I'm going to bust Ellen in her knees."

Philbin is guaranteed to take home at least one trophy. The 76-year-old talk show host, who's show-business career can be traced back to his days as an NBC page in the 1950s, will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Jimmy Kimmel. Philbin has only won the talk show host category once in the 20 years he's hosted "Live." Current co-host Ripa has never won the category.

For the first time, "Dr. Phil" won't have to fight Philbin or DeGeneres in the outstanding talk show category. That's because "Dr. Phil," "The Tyra Banks Show" and PBS' "A Place of Our Own/Los Ninos en su Casa" - a daily show about child care that has English and Spanish versions - will spar in a new separate category: informative talk show.

Also new this year is the legal/courtroom program Daytime Emmy. Of the nine syndicated arbitrators currently airing on TV, "Judge Judy," "Judge Hatchett Show," "Cristina's Court," "The People's Court" and "Judge David Young" will duke it for the first legal Emmy. Formerly, veteran "Judge Judy" competed in a special class category against shows like "Trading Spaces" and "A Baby's Story."

"People say it's nice to be invited to the dance, but I say it's even better to be the prom queen," first-time nominee David Young told the AP. "I think everyone who's nominated is incredibly talented and dedicated to the world of law and the justice system, but I think my approach is different from any other judge out there, so I think I've got a really great chance of winning."

CBS' "The Young and the Restless" leads the soap categories with 17 nominations. It will compete against ABC's "General Hospital," CBS' "Guiding Light" and ABC's "One Life to Live" for outstanding drama series. CBS netted the most nominations this year with 56 nods overall. In a surprising upset, each of the five lead actress nominees all hail from only CBS soaps.

Competition was put aside Thursday during SoapNet's "Night Before Party" at Hollywood nightclub Crimson & Opera. Soap stars and company sipped special cocktails, played "Wii Fit" and received hand massages during the celebration. Shepherd and "All My Children" diva Susan Lucci, who famously won her first Daytime Emmy in 1999 after 19 nominations, held court in a corner booth at the event.

Neverland Ranch could be on the market

An American court filing has said that Michael Jackson's home, Neverland Ranch, could be put up for sale at a public auction next month.
If the pop star is unable to pay the $24m he still owes on the property, the court will put his home on the market.
Jackson closed down areas of the 1,100 hectare (2,800 acre) ranch in 2006 in a bid to reduce costs on the property.
He also made the majority of his staff redundant but kept on a skeleton staff to run the parts of the estate that he kept open.
Financial Title Co filed the notice of trustee's sale with Santa Barbara County Superior Court yesterday, setting the auction date for 19 March.
